# Add competitors

> Build the list everything else works from: add competitors by hand, let AI find them, and sort them into a short and a long list.

Vector's whole competitive side runs on one list of companies. These are the products Vector researches, lines up against your features, and watches for changes while you get on with building. Naming them is the first real decision you make here, and nothing about it is permanent: a competitor can move between lists or be removed as your picture of the market sharpens.

Open the list from **Competitors** in the left menu, under **Plan product**.

## Add a competitor you already know

Click **+ Add** and fill in what you know:

* **Name** — required
* **URL** — the competitor's site
* **Description** — a line about what they do
* **Category** — how you group them, for example `meeting-assistant`

The competitor goes into the list whose tab you're on — the short list if you're on **All**. Only the name is essential; much of the rest arrives on its own once their [dossier](/competitors/competitor-dossier) is built.

## Find the ones you don't know

Click **✦ AI find competitors**. AI searches the web for products like the one you described on **My product**, and adds what it finds straight to your list. AI puts each one on the short or the long list; move any of them afterwards. The search runs in the background and can take a couple of minutes.

It needs two things in place: your product described on **My product**, and an [AI key](/getting-started/connect-a-provider) in **Settings**.

To focus the search on the markets you serve, click the globe button — **🌍 Worldwide** until you change it — and pick regions or countries under **Target market**. Leave it empty to search worldwide. It's the same market setting as on **My product**.

Once you have a list, **✦ Find more** runs the search again and skips everyone already in your table, so a second pass brings new names.

## Sort them into a short and a long list

The two lists split your attention, not your data:

* **Short list** — the handful you're directly up against and always watch.
* **Long list** — the wider field: adjacent products you want on the record without following them closely.

Move a competitor between the two with the **List** switch on their row, or from the **List** control at the top of their dossier. The tabs above the table show each list, or **All** for both, with a count on each.

## Review what you have

Each row shows what's known about the competitor so far:

| Column   | What it holds                                                                   |
| -------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Dossier | Their name. Click it to open their dossier |
| Website | Their site, opening in a new tab |
| Category | The group you put them in |
| Pricing | A pricing summary, from AI find or the latest pricing scan |
| Src | Where the row came from: **AI** if AI found it, **man** if you added it by hand |
| List     | The short/long switch                                                           |

**⚙ Columns** chooses which columns are shown. Drag a column border to resize it; double-click the border to reset it.

## Research several competitors at once

Tick the competitors you want, pick the actions to run for each — **💲 Pricing**, **🧩 Features**, **✦ Feature scan**, **Resources** or **🔬 Deep research** — and click **Next**.

Before anything runs, Vector checks every competitor against every action. Each pair is marked **✓ ready**, or **✕** with the reason — no URL, say, or no AI key. Fill in a missing URL right there and the pair is checked again; fix anything else and click **Re-check**.

Click **Run · N** to start the ready pairs; blocked ones are skipped. Each run uses your AI key. **Close (keeps running)** closes the window while the runs carry on.

## Remove a competitor

Click **✕** at the end of their row and confirm.

Everything collected about them goes with them: deep research, monitoring history, pricing captures, feature evaluations and scans, files and archived pages. Notifications already in your **Inbox** stay.
