# Compare competitors

> See which competitor has which feature and how good their version is, fill and correct the comparison, and find your gaps against one competitor.

Once you have a few competitors researched, the question changes from "what does each of them do" to "who has what, and how good is it". The comparison answers that in one table: every feature in your [catalog](/features/features-in-domain) down the side, you and each competitor across the top.

It's the **Coverage** view of the catalog: open **Features** → **Features in domain** and switch the view from **List** to **Coverage**.

## See who has what

Features are grouped by cluster and area, the same way as on the [product map](/features/product-map). The first column after the feature is **Us** — your own status — followed by one column per competitor. Each cell holds a status:

| Mark | Meaning                           |
| ---- | --------------------------------- |
| ✅    | Has it                            |
| ⚠️   | Partial, or only on a higher plan |
| ❌    | Doesn't have it                   |
| 🔜   | On their roadmap                  |
| —    | Not applicable                    |
| ·    | Nobody has assessed it yet        |

A dot and a cross mean different things. ❌ is a finding: someone checked and the competitor doesn't have it. A dot only means nobody has looked yet.

## Focus the comparison

A table with every competitor and every feature is hard to read. Narrow it down:

* **Competitors** — **Short list**, **Long list** or **All**. Short list, the default, keeps the table to the competitors you're directly up against. See [Add competitors](/competitors/add-competitors) for how the two lists work.
* **Only differences** — hides the rows where every visible competitor agrees, leaving the features that set competitors apart.
* **TL;DR** — adds a column with each feature's one-line summary, when names alone aren't enough.

## See whose version is better

Having a feature isn't the same as having a good one. Switch from **Status** to **Score** to replace each mark with a 0–10 rating of how good that competitor's version is, on a heat map: weak implementations toward red, strong ones toward green. Scan a row and you see who's ahead, not just who's there.

Three cases look different on purpose:

* a number from 1 to 10 is a rating
* `0` means someone rated it and it's present but not usable
* a dot means it hasn't been scored yet

Rows that hold a plain value rather than a capability are never scored.

## Fill the comparison

You don't fill the table by hand. Statuses and scores come from research:

* **🧩 Features** in a [competitor's dossier](/competitors/competitor-dossier) evaluates that competitor against your features and fills their column. To do it for several competitors at once, select them in the competitors list and pick **🧩 Features**.
* **Score** on a feature's **📊 Competitor coverage** section scores every competitor for that one feature.

Each status carries its evidence. Open a feature's [dossier](/features/feature-dossier), and its **📊 Competitor coverage** section shows, for each competitor, what backs the status and how strong that evidence is. Check it before you rely on a surprising cell.

## Fix a wrong status or score

Competitor cells in the table are read-only. To correct one, open the feature's dossier, go to **📊 Competitor coverage**, and click **Edit** on that competitor's row. Set the status, describe **What exactly they have**, and optionally set a score. A score you set by hand stays yours — later research won't overwrite it.

Your own **Us** status is the exception: in Status view you can change it right in the table.

## Find your gaps against one competitor

Preparing for a deal against a particular competitor? Click their name at the top of their column to open their comparison page. **Our features at this competitor** puts your status and theirs side by side for every feature, with how strong their evidence is. Every row where they have something you don't is marked **gap**, and **only gaps** hides the rest.

Below it, **Found at this competitor, not sorted yet** lists what research found at this competitor that isn't in your catalog yet. These are [candidates](/features/candidates): **See them with all their sources →** opens them in the candidates inbox, where you decide what each one is.
